Where to Eat in Geitau
Annette Delgay and I have known each other since our school days, and whenever someone asks me for a restaurant tip in Bayrischzell, the name Aiplspitz is almost always the first one out of my mouth. Not because we go way back, but because what lands on your plate here simply doesn't exist anywhere else in the area: Bavarian cooking with a French touch, made by the chef himself.
Gasthof Aiplspitz sits in Geitau, one of Bayrischzell's little corners, quiet and well off the main road. Annette runs the front of house while her husband Alain, a Frenchman by birth, holds down the kitchen. This isn't some big dining operation. It's a real village inn with a character all its own and a kitchen that keeps surprising you. The inn also has rooms to stay the night, with a view of the mountains.

Where Bavarian Meets French, and Means It
Alain Delgay does the cooking himself, no big kitchen crew behind him, and you can taste exactly that. The menu is kept small on purpose and changes often, because everything here is fresh and made by hand. Bavarian specialties, local ingredients from farmers and producers right down the road, and a French lightness in the cooking that lifts the whole thing to another level. The pasta is homemade, and vegetarian dishes are simply part of the deal.
We've eaten there plenty of times, and it's been genuinely good every single time. No haute cuisine, no fuss for the sake of fuss, just honest, down-to-earth cooking backed by real skill and good ingredients. The short menu isn't a limitation here, it's a sign of quality.
When Geitau Turns Into a Crêperie
Here's a real standout you won't find anywhere else in the region: every few weeks, the Aiplspitz transforms into a French crêperie. Galettes and crêpes, done the authentic way. Once you've been to one of these nights, you start keeping an eye on the calendar. The upcoming crêpe evenings are posted on the website, and reservations are a must.
The dining room fits the whole idea perfectly: old wood, worked by hand, paired with modern touches that never strip away the inn's soul. Cozy without being kitschy. It's the kind of interior you rarely come across, and together with the food it makes the Aiplspitz a place you don't just stumble into. You drive out to Geitau on purpose.
