A Private Day Spa at the Waterfall · Bayrischzell
Tucked into an old mill from 1700, at the foot of the Wendelstein, sits one of the most remarkable baths I know, right inside the gorge, next to a waterfall that drops a good 26 feet (8 m). I've been back here a handful of times over the years, and it never gets old.
The Dorfbad is a private day spa. No public pool, no day tickets. You book the whole place just for yourself, for two, with friends, or with coworkers.
Award-Winning Three Times Over
And it's not just my take. The pros see it the same way:

The Moment
Right in the Gorge, Beside the Waterfall

The building is wedged into the gorge, between two rock walls, with the waterfall crashing down right next to it. The sound is so steady and deep that after a few minutes the everyday just melts away. Whatever stress you bring, you leave it here.
In the tubs you sit in the warmth, right in front of the falling water. Add to that a grotto shower and the natural plunge pool set against the rock, cold, clear, and wide-awake making.

Let Yourself Be Pampered
Massage, Tea, and Quiet by the Fireplace

A massage is already included. There's 40 minutes built right into every booked hour. In between, there's a tea station with herbs and a self-serve drink bar. The drinks are on the house too, including prosecco, wine, and beer. Plus loungers by the fireplace. You don't have to do a thing but sit there and listen to the water.
Inside
Sauna, Fireplace Room, and a Spot to Drift Off

Inside there's a lounging area with a soft mat, dim light, and a window that opens straight onto the waterfall. I've seen people simply fall asleep there, that's how calming it is.

The sauna is old, made of wood, looking out over the creek. What gets me every time: everything smells good, the old wood, the sauna, a warm note all its own that you just can't stage.
An Honest Take
Who It's Worth It For

For anyone who wants to slow down, for two people looking for a quiet day, and yes, absolutely for guys too. Sometimes I get the feeling that spas are seen as a women's thing. Not here. The place is rustic enough that nobody feels out of place.
It also works great for a small celebration, a birthday, or a bachelor or bachelorette party. The owner is set up for it. And since the Dorfbad is always booked exclusively, you split the cost among everyone, and suddenly it isn't expensive at all.
You can't stay overnight at the Dorfbad itself. If you're looking for a bed in the village, there are a few places I know personally, listed under Accommodations. And one last honest note: there's unfortunately no parking right at the Dorfbad. Your best bet is to park down by the train station, and it's a short walk from there.
Booking is done exclusively online through the Almbad, as an exclusive stay of either four or seven hours. The stay includes the sauna, the tub baths, a massage, towels, a fruit basket, and all drinks. I'll link you the way there.
