I have a very personal connection to Butz bakery: my son is doing his baker's apprenticeship here. I know Sebastian and Sophia Butz personally, and we don't buy our bread and pastries anywhere else. So when I write this, it isn't a neutral recommendation. It's my honest conviction that there's no better place in Bayrischzell for bread, pastries, and cake.
Butz Organic Bakery is one of the last true artisan bakeries in Miesbach county. Certified organic, regional ingredients, everything made by hand, and on top of that an alpine café that serves up homemade ice cream in summer and cake and coffee year-round, in one of the coziest spots in town.

Real Craft, No Mixes from a Bag
The Butz family's baking tradition goes all the way back to 1947. The business has been in Bayrischzell since 1993, and in 2021 Sebastian Butz, a master baker and pastry chef, took over from his father Robert. His wife Sophia, a pastry chef herself, joined the business in 2022. Everything that comes out of the oven here each morning is made exclusively from regional organic ingredients, with no industrial shortcuts.
Rolls, bread, pretzels, whole-grain loaves, all of it done by hand, all of it fresh. That may sound like a given, but these days it's anything but. There are hardly any bakeries left in Miesbach county that still work this way. If you want to grab fresh rolls before a morning hike, this is exactly the place, the bakery opens at 6:30 on weekdays.
Cake, Ice Cream, and the Best Coffee Stop in Town
Sebastian and Sophia also run the Alpine Café, a small, cozy gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. Sophia handles the cakes and tortes, and every single one of them is a winner. If you need something special, a wedding cake, a birthday cake, a custom order, you can ask the two of them directly.
In summer, the homemade ice cream joins the lineup, and that alone is worth the detour. Seasonal specialties like Zwetschgendatschi, a Bavarian plum sheet cake, round out the offering. The Alpine Café isn't a slick designer spot. It's exactly what it's meant to be: an honest place with genuine craft, where you'll happily settle in for a coffee and a slice of cake.
